HR Generalist

Location: Milwaukee

Team: Employee Services

We are seeking a dedicated HR professional to support building the strongest team of planning, architecture, graphics and interior design professionals possible!

This individual will bring her/his HR experience, and work closely with our “HR Guy,” to direct and manage many Employee Services Team (HR) responsibilities, with a special focus on developing and nurturing our talented team of professionals.

Responsibilities

Policies and Programs

  • Manage the administration of our human resources policies, procedures and programs
  • Lead key tasks in these functional areas: HR information systems, employee relations, benefits, compensation, organizational development, and employment practices
  • Lead our employee engagement process
  • Collaborate with our Benefits Administrator to assist staff with basic benefit questions and direction

Employee Training & Development Coordination

  • Internal development of staff – develop and implement a system to help Team Leaders to more effectively coach and mentor staff to grow their professional roles
  • Lead the efforts to enhance and institutionalize our new employee orientation practices and coordinate onboarding activities in collaboration with our teams
  • Provide the Kahler Slater orientation on our culture, policies and procedures to new staff
  • Lead the annual Employee Goal Setting & Review process
  • Support the annual Leadership promotion process
  • Collaborate with the firm’s Architect Licensing Advisor to coordinate and provide access to Architectural Experience Program (formerly “IDP”) resources for our Architectural Interns
  • Coordinate and organize large group trainings in support of the firm’s strategic initiatives, as often as monthly

Recruiting Assistance to the Director of Human Resources (aka “HR Guy”)

  • Lead the hiring process for non-design staff and admin temporary help
  • Provide recruiting and staffing logistics support for design professional pursuits (led by the HR guy)
  • Coordinate temp technical staffing (drafting and design provided by external consultants/firms)
  • Post jobs in appropriate locations to reach talent (includes research to determine best websites to use for various positions)
  • Day-to-day administration of incoming resumes and routing them to the appropriate individuals for review
  • Coordinate interviews and enhance our related communications and interactions with applicants
  • Prepare offer letters
  • In collaboration with the HR Guy, maintain a constant pulse on staffing needs
  • Lead our Affirmative Action Compliance data collection (applicant tracking) and annual reporting
  • Track employee recruiting bonuses in support of the Compensation Committee
  • Conduct annual compensation research

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and organize job descriptions & responsibility level profiles for new positions
  • Provide logistics support for employee terminations
  • In coordination with the executive team, track and recognize milestone anniversaries
  • Coordinate the completion of the annual Employee Services operational plan and track the required quarterly updates
  • Special projects as they arise

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A bachelor's degree in human resource management, plus four or more years of experience in the HR field, or any similar combination of education and experience
  • HR experience in the service industry is preferred; in a design services firm is ideal
  • A SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential is preferred
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation
  • Attention to detail in the intent and composition of written documentation and verbal communication
  • Evidence of successful team-orientation and collaboration behaviors
  • Diligence in seeking solutions to complex problems, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines
  • A professional manner, coupled with common sense

Working Relationships and Scope

  • Supports every person in the firm
  • Directly works with, and reports to, the HR Guy
  • Works closely with the Financial Services Team, the Executive Team and the Administrative Team

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a professional, creative, open office environment with business casual attire. Hours of work will generally be during regular business hours and will average 2,300 hours per year. Great flexibility in your schedule is both required of you and returned to you due to many project deadlines. Occasional travel to our other US offices may be required.
