The goal of the new Junior Achievement (JA) of Wisconsin facility is to help students build a foundation for making intelligent, lifelong, personal financial and career oriented decisions through hands-on, realistic site-based experiences. Our challenge was to take the existing Junior Achievement curriculum and add fun and excitement to a new physical space that inspires and immerses kids in an environment supporting the JA mission. Our design solution is a dynamic 45,000 square foot building that takes advantage of a unique site, while being designed for LEED certification.
The excitement builds from the moment children arrive. The building is artfully designed to have a unique entry experience that immediately draws children to the beauty of the natural surroundings by way of a tall, glass enclosed connection link, providing views of the nearby pond and outdoor space. From there, students either visit Finance Park, which emulates a mall, or Biz Town, which evokes a town square. Here, students experience real life adult challenges in an exciting environment. Views of the surrounding nature are prevalent throughout the building to add to the energy and creativity of the space. The building includes 12,000 square feet of open office space for JA staff on the second floor overlooking views of the pond with lots of collaboration work spaces for improved productivity and teamwork.
