Creating a new standard in women’s health care is a major feat. But for the team at the Aurora Women’s Pavilion, creating a holistic approach to women’s health which focused on healing both women’s minds, bodies and spirits was an essential need in their community and the nation. A true women’s health care center would have to offer unique experiences for the patients, families, staff and physicians in order to transform the traditional care delivery model.
Designing personalized experiences that meet the unique and diverse needs of women became a key challenge during the planning of this women's health center of excellence. Extensive focus group data formed the basis of an inspirational vision workshop to capture this new idea in women's health. The Kahler Slater design team worked closely with the client to design a concept of delivering women's health care in a nurturing, collaborative way, while creating new protocols to preserve the dignity of guests. From the moment guests arrive at the Aurora Women's Pavilion, they know that this is going to be a different health care experience. Valet parking, a healing garden, fireplaces, water features, retail, café and room service all create a healing experience. The resulting design puts guests at ease, while offering them comprehensive, integrated services to address the needs of women of all ages. The center houses obstetrical and surgical services, women's imaging, cancer services, cardiac awareness/prevention program, behavioral health as well as integrative therapies such as acupuncture, massage and biofeedback. The project creates a patient experience that refreshes, inspires and restores and sets a new standard for women's health services throughout the nation. Perhaps the most telling measure of success for the Aurora Women's Pavilion is their women's services transformation from last to first choice in their marketplace.
