Kahler Slater led the design for the Founders Village Apartments on the Alvernia University campus in Reading, Penn. The apartments were built specifically for upper-class students. The buildings include nearly 150 beds, with apartment sizes to complement many different living arrangements - from two person efficiencies to five person apartments.
Situated on the edge of a hill, the design carefully blends a modern aesthetic with the traditional elements of the existing campus. Special attention was given to creating an environment focused on providing students with a "live, work, play" balance. The apartments are fully furnished and include ample natural light, and community study rooms allow for group collaboration or individual work. At the heart of each building lies a multi-level student lounge that combines cutting-edge technology, ample seating around a stone fireplace and lovely views of the rolling hills surrounding campus.
