Kahler Slater served as the health science educational design lead on the planning and design of this 78,000 square foot health sciences and nursing education center. The center’s building design integrates advanced technology with flexible space, as well as providing lab space immediately adjacent to classroom and lecture areas. Classroom and lab areas were designed and constructed to simulate actual medical office, hospital and home health care settings to give students a hands-on health care practice experience. The facility also provides practicing health care professionals with additional training opportunities.
The center supports 16 different health care specialties and technologies for students, including a nursing skills lab, health unit coordinating, medical imaging technology, respiratory care, surgical technician, hospital central services and physical therapy assistant. The facility also houses a cadaver storage room, life science and chemistry labs, general purpose classrooms, a computer lab, faculty services, support areas and general student areas. Kahler Slater worked with local architect Gould Evans on this project.
