Combining historic detail with high-performance facilities of today

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Kahler Slater was asked to perform several renovation projects to Johnston Hall, a historic five-story Gothic-style building on the Marquette University campus. The building houses the College of Communication and is considered an icon to both the Marquette Campus and the City of Milwaukee.

Most recently, Kahler Slater coordinated the replacement of all of the building’s exterior windows. Careful attention was given to match the details of the historic wood windows. The new monumental single-hung windows combine a maintenance-free exterior cladding with high-performance insulated glass while still evoking a historical feel. Kahler Slater also assisted with a new elevator in the building and remodeled several interior spaces which provided a new student lounge and multi-media classroom, enjoyed by students and faculty alike.
