Establishing a New Campus Built for Long-Term Success

Fishersville, Virginia

Kahler Slater partnered with Mary Baldwin University to establish the new Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences in Fishersville, Virginia. Opened in 2014, the College of Health Sciences welcomed students into new co-educational, graduate degree programs and paves the way for a major programmatic and physical expansion for the 170-year old university.

The College of Health Sciences establishes a new campus for Mary Baldwin University, ensuring both short-term and long-term success for the program and the institution. The new college offers the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) programs. Master of Science in Physician Assistant (MPAS) and RN to BSN programs will begin in the fall of 2015.

From the three-story, light-filled atrium with waterfall staircase to the active learning classrooms, simulation suite, human anatomy cadaver lab, clinical labs, research spaces and numerous formal and informal gathering places, the facility creates opportunities for students and faculty from all four programs to work together. This collaboration and sharing of knowledge through research and applied learning experiences will give students a broader understanding of health care and more accurately reflects the environments in which they will ultimately work.

The program includes classrooms, skills labs, a gross anatomy laboratory, dedicated OT, PT and PA lab, nursing and simulation rooms, faculty and administrative offices and student lounge space. In addition, Mary Baldwin University is already announcing plans to expand curricular offerings.
