Generating excitement about teaching, learning and scholorship

University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh
The Clow Social Science Center and Nursing & Education Building

Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Kahler Slater completed the renovation of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s Clow Social Science Center and Nursing & Education Building. Kahler Slater designed a facility that generates excitement about teaching, learning and scholarship by providing an inspiring, technology-rich environment. It serves the campus and community while supporting the unique needs and identities of the three colleges that inhabit the spaces. These upgrades were the first significant improvements made to the building since its construction in 1966.

The complex houses the College of Nursing as well as the College of Education and Human Services in order to maximize campus resources. Throughout, the design integrates advanced technology to provide ample opportunities for active collaboration, lab space, classrooms and lecture areas for each program. A state-of-the-art simulation center was designed to simulate real world experiences that closely mimic those that students will ultimately practice in as well as providing practicing health care professionals with additional training opportunities. The building also includes research labs for psychology, environmental studies, and an animal colony.
