Kahler Slater led the planning and design of a major addition and remodeling to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Klotsche Center/Pavilion. The Klotsche Center/Pavilion is the primary athletic and student recreational facility for the campus community and is open more than 100 hours per week for instruction, recreation and physical fitness.
The project includes a 135,000 square foot addition to the existing facility which integrates four programs: recreation, athletics, sports medicine and physical therapy. The expansion space includes a new four-court gymnasium with a suspended jogging track, a cardiovascular and strength training center, a therapy pool, an athletic weight training center, athletic "suite" locker rooms, new labs for sports medicine, space for a physical therapy program including labs, and a student commons space. Additionally, the project includes an underground parking structure for 600 cars. Major improvements to the existing facility include interior remodeling to create activity/aerobic classrooms, new flooring and court floor replacements, renovation of the men's and women's existing locker rooms, light and sound system upgrades, air conditioning/ventilation upgrades, and the replacement of existing pool equipment.
