University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Recreation Study

Creative design solutions to solve recreation and athletic space needs

Stevens Point, Wisconsin

Kahler Slater is currently working with the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point (UWSP) to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the current and future needs for student recreation and fitness facilities. This project will document the existing facilities available and how the facilities are meeting the needs of these programs. The study will also provide insight into deficiencies identified in the facilities for current and future programs.

UWSP has 20 NCAA Division III sports of which approximately 60%-70% rely on indoor spaces for competition or practice spaces. There is an intramural program that currently serves approximately 10,000 participants over the course of an academic year. UWSP also has 20 club sports teams that are competitive but are not NCAA sanctioned teams. There are an additional 20-30 student organizations that are fitness, activity or recreation based that also require access to the same indoor spaces.

This process will involve stakeholders such as students; student-athletes; campus recreation, intramurals, and club sports representatives; athletic department administration, and university administration. This master plan will identify the programmatic needs and provide alternative solutions with associated costs.
