Providing an Aquatic Facility for the Campus and Community

Kahler Slater was charged with providing Luther College, Winneshiek County, and the City of Decorah with a study and concept design to review the future of aquatics and recreation in the Decorah area. The primary objective for this study was to plan for year-round recreation and exercise space for families and community residents of all ages and the students of Luther College.

The study included gathering data from numerous public and targeted meetings over a one-week period. A conceptual design of the facility has been created based on the data gathered along with estimated costs of construction and operation.

The design of the facility will allow for a multitude of activities including a competition and leisure pool, multi-activity courts, fitness space, running track, and small multi-activity classrooms. These flexible spaces provide various opportunities for people of all ages to engage with one another in healthy activities.
