Yo Mama!

A cool new frozen yogurt destination that’s fun for kids and hip enough for adults

Wauwatosa, Wisconsin

Yo Mama is the brainchild of a stay-at-home mama with a vision to create a fun new frozen yogurt concept that brings the healthy yogurt ideas she had seen in other parts of the country to Wisconsin, with her own twists. This self-serve frozen yogurt shop prototype was developed through a Kahler Slater Brand Build Visioning Workshop involving the client and her husband, her business partners and our total experience design team. The initial brand concept developed by the client and a marketing firm were further developed and tied into the total experience.

The location selected for the first shop is a pedestrian and family friendly retail spot in Wauwatosa’s historic village. The former retail space was transformed into a bright, open shop with funky accents, kid-friendly seating and contemporary touches that creates a space that is as comfortable for a couple to grab a coffee and pastries at the end of a date night as it is for a post-soccer game celebration for kids. The unique Yo Mama experience is highlighted by the guest’s product purchase process. Step one: pick your bowl size, select and serve yourself any combination of the ten frozen yogurt flavors, which change regularly. Step two: pile on your own toppings from fresh fruit and healthy granola to chocolate candy bar pieces and gummy bears. Step three: check out by paying for your weighed dish and grab a cup of Alterra coffee, gourmet hot chocolate, local pastries and chocolates or Italian cookies. Yo Mama’s freshman store opened summer 2011 to rave reviews, far exceeding sales expectations. Due to its success, the concept will continue to roll out new stores around the area, with the next locations currently in design to be located in Brookfield and Shorewood, Wisconsin.
