The New York Times recently praised Milwaukee by saying, “The skyline of this Great Lakes city is getting a makeover… An expanse of wide, windy, forlorn avenues not long ago, downtown Milwaukee has gained new life.” Locally, the development at 1550 N Prospect is being billed an important effort in sustaining this new life, as well as an impactful addition to the skyline of the lakeshore.
The development is designed for young professionals that want to live and work in the increasingly vibrant downtown scene. The site was selected due to its high walkability, opportunity for lake views, and neighborhood density that allows for the efficient and connected lifestyle desired by the fast-growing demographic.
Planning and design are underway for the 27-story residential tower, which will sit atop a parking podium. The project will be an amenity-rich environment with an outdoor pool and spa, theater, community rooms, entertaining areas, roof top decks and other shared uses. The building will feature views of downtown and of Lake Michigan, creating a high-end market-rate rental product.
The 192 one and two-bedroom units will have large private balconies, 10’ ceilings, large windows with expansive views, high-end stainless-steel appliances, natural stone countertops, hardwood and ceramic tile flooring throughout, custom showers with rainfall shower heads, walk-in closets, in-unit laundry, ample storage and other luxury features.
The main entry building is designed to allow for a receptionist, concierge and building management, who will offer services such as laundry pick-up and drop-off, dog-walking, valet parking and other services. The enclosed, tempered parking will be situated both below and above ground and will include bike parking, car charging stations, resident storage, and car sharing services.
The project is scheduled to break ground in 2018.
