Designing a Pandemic Ready Ambulatory Environment

As a part of Virginia Society of Health Engineers’ Winter Conference Webinar Series, Kahler Slater’s Dr. Manuel Hernandez, Md, MS, MBA, CPE was invited to present “Here We Go Again: Designing a Pandemic Ready Ambulatory Environment.”

In this presentation, Dr. Hernandez talks about leveraging a model of rapid innovation and prototyping, Kahler Slater designed an ambulatory care site capable of providing primary and urgent care, occupational health, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging services under one roof. Designed intentionally to maintain complete segregation of contagious and non-contagious patients and flows, the design solutions that emerged provides the ability to expand or contract services and capacity based on "normal" and "surge" operational needs.
