Expressing a powerful story to capture 70 years of success and growth

Chicago, Illinois

Shortly after marking its 70th anniversary, Mesirow Financial moved into a new office tower built to house, for the first time in its history, the firm’s headquarters and the many diverse operations and companies it had acquired over time. This move presented Mesirow Financial, a global financial services leader with more than 1,200 employees, the chance to unify its branding message and gather all its divisions under a single cultural umbrella.

Kahler Slater’s design team engaged the client’s senior leadership team in a series of dynamic workshops that uncovered the most important attributes of their brand and culture and also the key storylines to be expressed in the space using environmental branding and signage. The result of this process is a comprehensive environmental branding program that tells the story of Mesirow Financial throughout their headquarters. A number of physical expressions of quiet confidence, global reach and pride in their Chicago-based headquarters were created in their workplace, including:

  • A large “accordion” wall that juxtaposes a world map and a Chicago panorama, visually demonstrating Mesirow’s significant contribution to both the Chicago and global communities.
  • Six stainless steel panels that highlight the firm’s diversified business liens and illustrate the breadth and stability of the organization
  • Key messages from the chairman and president prominently displayed in stainless steel typography
  • A flexible history mosaic that communicates the history and diversity of the firm while providing for future stories of success as well
