With an opportunity to renovate existing space as well as partner with a local health care provider to create a “Healthy Village” destination, the Rite-Hite YMCA was designed specifically for adults looking for a high-quality fitness experience. Kahler Slater designed a new campus master plan which included placement of a new clinic building for the health care provider in conjunction with, and connected to, the remodeled YMCA. The goal was to provide not only a new physical presence for both entities, but also to enhance the area and the image of the YMCA.
The space plan was redesigned to position the welcome centers adjacent to the area separating the clinic from the YMCA. Remodeling included significant updates to the locker areas, fitness areas and multi-purpose areas as well as the circulation/public areas. The updates enabled Y leadership to modify program requirements and improve the quality of the space and services. Conversion of a gym and adjacent spaces into a fitness facility that includes a jogging track, upscale locker rooms, and reception and lounge areas creates a comfortable, pleasant and relaxing experience. A separate space was planned at one of the corners of the track specifically for members starting a new fitness program or coming back after many years of being away from a lifestyle without fitness.
