Creating a Healthy Village destination

YMCA
Rite-Hite Branch

Brown Deer, Wisconsin

With an opportunity to renovate existing space and partner with a local health care provider to create a “Healthy Village” destination, the Rite-Hite YMCA was designed specifically for adults looking for a high-quality fitness experience. Kahler Slater designed a new campus master plan which included placement of a new clinic building for the health care provider as well as a remodeled YMCA. The goal was to provide not only a new physical presence for both entities, but also enhance the area and the image of the YMCA.

The space plan was redesigned to position the welcome center adjacent to the area separating the clinic from the YMCA. Remodeling included significant updates to the locker rooms, fitness and multi-purpose areas as well as the circulation/public areas. The updates enabled Y leadership to modify program requirements and improve the quality spaces and services offered. The gym and adjacent spaces were converted into a fitness facility with a jogging track, upscale locker rooms, reception and lounge areas creating a comfortable and relaxing experience.
