AEM

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) is a global trade association representing equipment manufacturers in the agricultural, construction, forestry, mining and utility sectors. Throughout the years, Kahler Slater assisted AEM in modernizing and reconfiguring their existing space to accommodate growth. In mid-2018, the organization's leadership decided it was time to update their workplace with fresh eyes to ensure that the corporate headquarters would reflect AEM's powerful voice and advocacy of its membership.

AEM wanted to facilitate engagement between employees by removing private offices and dedicating that space to shared amenities and increased conferencing options. Critical to the design was working within the constraints of the historic Allis Chalmers building as well as a tight timeline with phased execution while AEM occupied the space.

The resulting design opened the floor plate, incorporated featured mezzanines as collaboration spaces, maximized the available daylight and increased visual connections between team members. Space was used as a tool to connect AEM employees and visitors to the world of the association's members through scale. Kahler Slater's Environmental Branding team worked with the interior designers to solidify AEM's brand by creating massive life-sized installations that communicate the impressive size of the equipment of AEM's membership.
