Milwaukee County Research Park is home to more than 4,600 employees, including a startup incubator of 45 small businesses and 300 staff. In response to the growing population at the Research Park and substantial workforce at the neighboring Milwaukee Regional Medical Complex, Mandel Group selected Kahler Slater to design the Crescent Apartment complex, a 102-unit building to serve the growing base of young professionals in the area.
The building includes a mix of 8 studio apartments, 64 one bedrooms, and 30 two bedrooms, with half of the units having private balconies. For those without balconies, residents can enjoy a public courtyard with pergola and outdoor kitchen, or the café space that includes free beverages for all residents and guests.
The exterior of the building reveals an attractive palette of dark brick and cedar shiplap siding. Additional features include a green roof, and 122 spaces of below-grade parking. For amenities, residents will use the adjacent powerhouse building which is being converted into an open community room, restaurant/café, and a fitness center.
In addition to the Crescent Apartments, Kahler Slater designed the recently constructed six-story, 119-room SpringHill Suites Hotel north of the Mandel Group project. These additions have largely completed the Research Park master plan.
