Where Olympic Speed Skaters Train, Compete, and Win

Pettit National Ice Center
Olympic Training Facility

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

As an official training site for US Speedskating, the Pettit National Ice Center features a 400-meter speed skating oval and two international-size hockey rinks which has been instrumental in the development of U.S. speed skaters to compete for and win Olympic medals. The Pettit has hosted regional, national and international competitions, as well as AAA hockey showcases and annual indoor running marathon, both attracting teams and runners from across the nation. The project also includes locker rooms, skate rental, concessions, approximately 2,000 spectator bleachers, a sports medicine facility, public skate changing facilities, offices, and multipurpose/viewing room.

All U.S. speed skaters who have competed in the past six Winter Olympics have trained or competed at the Pettit Center, including legends such as five-time gold medalist Bonnie Blair Cruikshank, Dan Jansen, Chris Witty, and Shani Davis.

This fast-track project, led by Kahler Slater, opened less than one year after it was awarded. This schedule was necessary in order to obtain certification as an official Olympic training facility by the U.S. Olympic Committee.
