Delivering a home-court advantage for a winning team

Kress Events Center

Green Bay, Wisconsin

The Kress Events Center is a stunning campus landmark and the venue of choice for all large UW-Green Bay campus events. Serving as the home court for the University’s championship women’s basketball and volleyball teams, the Center also houses a turf gym, fitness studios, and multiple volleyball and basketball courts.

The University commissioned Kahler Slater in partnership with Moody Nolan to design this state-of-the-art building. A feeling of openness was a key element of its design. A two-story glass wall creates a mezzanine on which the fitness center is located. Students enjoy views of the main basketball court as well as some of the campus’ most beautiful landscape. Once inside the basketball court, an intimate setting brings fans as close as possible to the action. The barrel-vaulted ceilings echo and amplify the noise, heightening the excitement courtside and creating a distinct home-court advantage. Beyond athletics and recreation, the Center also hosts concerts and convocations which, up until its opening, were hosted off campus.

During their first season in their new home, the women’s basketball team won 27 consecutive games, tying the school record for the longest home-court winning streak.
