With staff and patient safety and experience top of mind for Froedtert Health, they began the journey of upgrading visitor management and security in 2018. With a focus on shifting workplace culture and technology integration, the project also explored the balance of “openness” for visitors and families and security and safety for staff.
One key security feature is the addition of turnstiles. Shifting the traditional expectations of turnstiles (three prongs with rotating arms), the team worked with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to approve a new turnstile technology with “bi-parting automatic doors,” which allow wheelchairs and even hospitals beds to come through them.
The project team included Business Protection Specialists Inc. out of Raleigh, North Carolina; Minnesota-based integrator VTI and architectural firm Kahler Slater.
