The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has appointed Joe Jurkiewicz to the AIA’s 2020 Codes and Standards Committee. This committee, first formed in 1950, was established to develop building codes that make the built environment and communities safer and more resilient—updating codes, pushing them beyond the bare minimum and ensuring they encourage business growth.
Joe is an Associate Principal and Senior Project Architect at Kahler Slater. He has more than 45 years of architectural experience specializing in large and complicated projects. Joe’s clients appreciate his technical architectural skills, his responsiveness, and his building code expertise. Joe’s formal involvement in the development of commercial building codes started in 2002 when he began nine years of services as AIA Wisconsin’s representative on Wisconsin’s Commercial Building Code Advisory Council. Also, Joe served on several specialty advisory councils dealing with means of egress and accessibility. As a member of Kahler Slater’s Sage Group, Joe is able to fulfill his passion for sharing his technical and building code knowledge with others inside and outside of the firm.
