Thomas Miller, AIA, 1967–2019, Architect, Mentor, Friend

May 24, 2019

Kahler Slater unexpectedly lost an incredible leader, colleague, mentor and friend, Tom Miller.

Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Tom appreciated his intelligence, unmatched work ethic, quick wit and sense of humor. Tom was a person with incredible energy and outstanding client relationships.

At Kahler Slater, Tom was a principal/owner leading our Housing and Hospitality team. He worked with numerous clients on the design and management of complex, high-profile architectural and real estate projects including the Historic Button Block Renovation (Homewood Suites – Milwaukee), Vantage Apartments (the former Park East Hotel – Milwaukee), The Edge Apartments (Madison) and most recently the Milwaukee Athletic Club renovations. Tom led many award-winning projects throughout his career and was heavily involved with Urban Land Institute and other organizations to promote urban development. Tom earned his undergrad degree from UC Berkeley and his masters from the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.

It is our challenge and honor to build upon what Tom started and continue his legacy. He will be sincerely missed by his colleagues, friends, family, and his beloved partner, Dana Ryan, with whom he was expecting a baby boy this summer.
