Valley Health Celebrates Topping Out for Winchester Medical Center’s Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Tower

October 24, 2025

On October 22, Valley Health, in partnership with Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation, marked a major milestone with the topping out of their new Rehabilitation Tower at Winchester Medical Center. This tradition celebrates the placement of the final steel beam and the progress of a transformative $75 million project.

The new facility will centralize and expand rehabilitation services currently offered across multiple Valley Health locations. Estimated to be completed in 2026 by Howard Shockey & Sons, the tower will offer:

  • Acute inpatient rehabilitation
  • Outpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapy
  • Orthotics & Prosthetics + Bionics

A climate-controlled skywalk will connect the tower to the main hospital, improving access for medically complex patients and staff.

Kahler Slater’s design supports Valley Health’s goals to grow inpatient and outpatient services, improve operational efficiency, and create a healing destination equipped with state-of-the-art technology and therapy strategies.

We’re honored to help bring this vision to life and look forward to the impact this facility will have on patients and families across the region.

“This moment is about more than steel and concrete, it’s a symbol of our shared commitment to expanding access to world-class rehabilitation care right here in our region.”
