Due to the Door County YMCA's growing memberships and program numbers, the Sturgeon Bay facility is expanding. Kahler Slater and Boldt Construction were selected by the Door County YMCA to design and construct a new 2-level wellness center on the building’s northeast corner. The Sturgeon Bay facility hasn’t had any significant renovations or additions in over 20 years.
The design of the 16,300 square-foot addition highlights community wellness throughout and creates transparency between all spaces. The new building includes an entry with a wellness center and community spaces, a group exercise studio, family locker room, an expanded office area, a kitchen, an outdoor fitness space with synthetic turf, and a youth activity center. The multi-purpose activity center provides space for day camp in the summer and after school programs during the school year.
“Our firm’s mission is very synergistic with the YMCA’s of enhancing life in the communities we serve. We know this addition will continue to enhance the lives of the people in Sturgeon Bay, Door County, and the surrounding communities through the programs and services this location will offer. Congratulations to the donors, board members, and to the community members for all making this important step possible.”Jeff Piette, Kahler Slater Vice President and Sports + Recreation Team Leader
