A new facility serves community recreation and wellness needs

YMCA
Greater Waukesha County Mukwonago Center

Mukwonago, Wisconsin

Lacking a family-oriented recreational center in a nearly 20-mile radius, the YMCA of Waukesha determined to build a new facility to meet the growing needs of the communities of Big Bend, Eagle, East Troy, Muskego, North Prairie, Vernon, Waterford, Wales and southwest Waukesha. Considered a success, the facility is designed to allow open views into all public spaces to promote community and interaction within its member population.

The facility has a 3-lane walking/jogging track that wraps the interior of the facility, a community meeting room, a gymnasium, a fitness/wellness center, multi-purpose rooms and locker rooms. The fitness center includes cardiovascular exercise machines, strength and free-weight equipment as well as personal training space. Group exercise studios provide areas for cycling, yoga, Pilates, Zumba, strength, core, step, suspension training, Tae Kwon Do, youth movement, youth dance, SilverSneakers for older adults and more.

One highlight of the Y is the extensive Aquatic Center that features 3 pools: a family pool with zero-depth entry, spray features and a water slide; a 4-lane cool water lap pool; and a whirlpool.
