A heart and vascular center of excellence supports top quality care

Augusta Health
Heart and Vascular Center

Fishersville, Virginia

Augusta Health partnered with Kahler Slater to design a Heart and Vascular Center of Excellence to improve cardiovascular care in rural Virginia, serving patients and families close to home. The design team worked to ensure a smooth and successful Certificate of Public Need (COPN) process with the State of Virginia.

Kahler Slater’s inclusive planning process with input from physician partners and cardiologists fostered collaborative relationships to ensure this Center of Excellence attracts patients both in and outside their region.

A garden flanks the dedicated entry to the Heart and Vascular Center, while also providing a backdrop for the rehab gym located adjacent the main entry and lobby seating. Nearby amenities for the facility include a heart-healthy café and education center which spread Augusta Health’s wellness message. Non-invasive cardiovascular diagnostics are located on the first floor, while the second floor houses invasive cardiology, expansion space for future electrophysiology (EP) services, and dedicated prep and recovery rooms. Third floor shell space is available for future expansion. The project connects on every floor to the existing health campus for provider efficiency, patient convenience and safety.

Additional campus-wide renovations include a new dining experience; hyperbaric care; orthopedic care, including joint camp; medical/surgical and pediatric inpatient beds; radiology; and patient registration.
