Grant Regional Health Center
Expansion

Lancaster, Wisconsin

The Grant Regional Health Center expansion project was initiated to support future growth, enhance patient and staff experience, and modernize aging campus infrastructure. Key objectives included expanding behavioral health and rehabilitation services, updating critical building systems, and replacing undersized and outdated support spaces such as laboratory and nutrition services. Leadership also sought improvements to campus logistics, workflow, and efficiency while maintaining flexibility to adapt to evolving healthcare delivery models.

To address these challenges, the design team led a collaborative discovery and visioning process that engaged hospital leadership, stakeholders, and technical consultants. Underutilized areas were evaluated for their potential to better support clinical care, staff wellness, and operational performance. Throughout planning and design, careful emphasis was placed on prioritization, phasing, and scope alignment to ensure a practical, cost‑effective solution. Design strategies focused on adaptability, clear circulation, access to natural daylight, and infrastructure systems designed to support long‑term change.

The resulting design includes a combination of new construction and renovations that enhance both clinical and support functions. The lower level introduces a modern kitchen and dining area that improves efficiency and safety, along with an expanded rehabilitation gym featuring natural daylight, upgraded finishes, and improved wayfinding. On the upper level, key clinical spaces are reorganized to support growth and flexibility, including a relocated laboratory with a future‑ready layout and dedicated space for an expanding behavioral health clinic designed with safety, privacy, and dignity in mind.

Together, these enhancements create a cohesive, efficient, and forward‑looking healthcare environment that supports exceptional care and long-term community needs.
