Formerly known as The Park East Hotel, the 5-story, 159 room property at 916 East State Street in Milwaukee was recently purchased to be converted into 96 luxury apartments. The Juneau Park area has been densely populated for over 100 years and project partners Klein Development and Millennial Partners see it as an exciting opportunity to meet the growing housing demand while restoring an existing building in desperate need of help.
The building will receive an extensive façade upgrade, as well as an additional floor. The new 6th story will feature a mix of penthouse apartments with private balconies, a community room, and a rooftop deck for use by all tenants and their guests. Rooftop visitors and residents on the south and east of the building will enjoy unobstructed views of Lake Michigan, which are preserved by Juneau Park directly across the street. Contributing to the charm of the neighborhood, the building will include 8,500 square feet of ground floor retail which can host a restaurant, coffee shop, or bar.
Units will be a blend of studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms with open floor plans, large windows, exposed concrete ceilings and in-unit laundry. First-floor and penthouse units will be townhomes for offering direct exterior access, and all units will have on-site parking and designated storage lockers in the basement.
Demolition is currently underway with a planned opening of fall 2018.
