Aviva Pembroke is an inclusive community that provides a range of living options and skilled services within a continuum of care for residents of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Operated by Beth Sholom Village as a faith-based, community, they focus on the spiritual, emotional, and physical wellbeing of their residents and for their families, regardless of faith, race, or creed. This project is the first phase in an initiative to reinvent a former regional shopping mall as mixed-use development known as Pembroke Square.
The project is located in a former parking lot where single family homes are juxtaposed to a commercial shopping area. The project transitions from the neighborhood scale with independent living units expressed as 2-story townhomes. These units wrap around a covered parking area which is capped with a green roof and amenity deck. The primary massing of the complex is a 7-story L-shaped tower which contains over 190,000-square-foot of units, amenities, and support. The 158-unit program includes 12 memory care rooms, 21 assisted-living units, and about 115 independent living units. Amenities include a pool, fitness center, bistro, community room, meditation/prayer room, outdoor amenity deck with pickleball courts, putting greens, and firepits, and a rooftop lounge and terrace. Construction started in late 2022 and will finish in 2024.
