Providing year-round access to recreation

University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh
Intramural Recreational Field Complex

Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Recently opened, UW-Oshkosh’s Rec Plex project includes a gateway building to artificial turf fields and an air-supported fabric dome. The dome is the first of its kind in the UW-System and allows for turf field access year-round. The project was in response to a need for additional recreation space due to an increase in the number of students who participated in intramural sports.

Designed for multiple games to occur simultaneously, the Rec Plex features two-recreational flag football and two-recreational soccer fields, and a regulation soccer, rugby and lacrosse field. State-of-the-art drainage and shock absorbent underlayment is designed into the synthetic turf fields. A permanent building houses restrooms, concessions and storage while controlling access near the main entrance. Several community and regional organizations have rented the dome to host winter events and tournaments, spurring economic benefits in the area.
