Due to significant growth in their student body enrollment, UW-Platteville was in need to expand their recreation facilities in order to best meet the needs of their campus. Kahler Slater partnered with the UW-Platteville to design an addition to the existing Williams Fieldhouse. The 55,000 SF addition helps the campus to address overall space needs deficiencies related to wellness, fitness and recreation due to an increase in enrollment at the University. The updated fieldhouse provides the latest trends in recreation design to meet the needs of the growing student body, faculty and staff, and the community.
The addition supports student club sports, intramural sports, open recreation, varsity sports, and the Physical Education Department. The design includes spaces for: multi-purpose playing courts and related support spaces, including lockers and other storage, showers, and restrooms; Wellness Center areas, and equipment including cardiovascular, weight machines, free weights, and an exercise studio; an athletic training suite; and recreation offices. Beyond the interior addition, new multi-use synthetic turf athletic outdoor fields support the new complex for intramural sports programs. The project was entirely funded by student segregated fees, as supported in the 2013 student body referendum.
“The fieldhouse expansion will benefit our entire student body, our faculty and staff and our community. I am a strong believer in a healthy body and healthy mind concept. This facility will enhance both the body and mind.”Dennis J. Shields, Chancellor, UW-Platteville
