Kahler Slater Assisting with Initiative to Grow the Area’s Creative Class

February 10, 2011

Creativity Works!, a joint project of the Cultural Alliance of Greater Milwaukee and the Greater Milwaukee Committee, is working to inventory and grow the Milwaukee seven county region’s creative economy. This includes the people, enterprises, and communities that transform artistic and cultural content, skills, knowledge and ideas into economically productive goods and services. Jill Morin, co-Executive Officer of Kahler Slater, served as working co-chair of the group’s first major initiative, a comprehensive research study defining and mapping the area’s creative class. The results of the study were unveiled at a public reception on January 19, 2011. Kahler Slater’s Brand Director, Marlisa Kopenski, kicked-off the evening and the enterprise was one of nearly 20 firms to create a one-of-a-kind centerpiece for the event.

Here are some interesting facts.

  • There are 66,707 “creative” jobs in the Milwaukee area in over 4,000 businesses and organizations
  • Providing $2 billion in wages
  • Comprising 4% of the region’s employment, which is almost as high as Atlanta’s percentage.
