Kahler Slater's Healthcare Team congratulates our client, St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital for receiving the Don Smith Commercial Building award for their North Building expansion. The award from the London and St. Thomas Association of REALTORS® is held every two years and recognizes the top commercial, industrial, multifamily and community buildings across the London, Ontario region. In addition to design excellence, the award criteria recognizes projects which address a specific developmental need within the community and are sensitive to the environment.
Kahler Slater partnered with Toronto-based Montgomery-Sisam on the $98m project which includes a complete replacement of the hospital's ED, Surgery and Central Processing departments plus a new 17-bed Mental Health unit. Emphasis was placed on improving both patient experience and staff efficiencies by refining adjacencies and minimizing footsteps. Since completion, St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital has reported a $1.3m operating surplus.
