Facility Enhancements to Support STEM-related Curricula

Ripon College
Franzen Science Center

Ripon, Wisconsin

With an increase in students pursuing degrees in STEM-related fields, Ripon College understood they needed to enhance their facilities to provide a more advanced and contemporary learning environment in order to serve current students and attract future students. Their existing Science Center was originally built in the 1960’s and has not had a significant renovation in over 30 years. Leadership engaged Kahler Slater to program and design a 68,500 square foot renovation and expansion to the Science Center to meet the increased demand, as well as reflect the latest pedagogy and curricula in science and STEM programs.

Scheduled to be completed in Fall 2024, the building will showcase new state-of-the-art laboratories, enhanced active learning classrooms, and collaboration and gathering spaces. Labs were designed to offer students hands-on experience designing studies, using equipment, and analyzing data. A glass lobby and sky deck will bring increased light into the teaching spaces and reflect the college’s mission to prepare students for their careers as well as being productive, socially responsible citizens.

Kahler Slater is partnered with The Boldt Company to deliver this project.
